Owen Hartnett is holds a Doctorate in Music from Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He officially joined the LSO during the 2016-2017 season as pianist/keyboardist, after subbing in for their final concert during the previous season. His primary teachers at IU were Edmund Battersby, Karen Shaw, and Menahem Pressler at Indiana University, as well as the late David Baker. Owen is originally from Rhode Island, and after gaining acceptance into the Boston University Tanglewood Institute during 1998 and winning the Fall River Young Artist’s competition that same year, he decided to move to Indiana to pursue music.
His prior teaching engagements include positions at Indiana University, the University of Indianapolis, and DePauw University, where he taught music majors and non-music majors in classroom and private settings. In addition, he has served as music director for the St Martin of Tours Catholic Church for the past 14 years, and recently performed solo piano accompaniment with the Ballet Theatre of Indiana’s premier of Glenn Buhr’s Beauty and the Beast in 2017, and other numerous performances throughout the state.
Owen Hartnett now resides in Avon, IN, works for IU Health while raising a wonderful family, and maintains an active performing profile throughout the year.
